Food Photos Policy

Last updated: May 26, 2026

FitGo may analyze a meal photo or description to estimate foods, portions, calories, and macronutrients. Results are approximate.

These pages describe FitGo's current and planned practices. They must stay aligned with the app, App Store Connect, and the providers actually used.

How it works

  • The photo or description is sent to a FitGo server function that uses OpenAI.
  • Products scanned by barcode may be looked up through Open Food Facts.
  • FitGo returns foods, portions, calories, protein, carbs, fats, and warnings to confirm.
  • You must validate or edit the result before relying on it.

Important limits

  • Calories and macros may be inaccurate.
  • Portions, sauces, oils, hidden ingredients, or brands may be misrecognized.
  • Do not use this feature for allergies, diabetes, eating disorders, illness, treatment, or medical decisions.
  • Consult a professional if you have specific nutrition needs.

Photos and retention

If you save a meal with a photo, the photo is stored locally on your device for display in the app. Nutrition results may be saved and synced. Deleting the meal deletes the corresponding local photo when possible.
